Celebrating the Birth . . . Evelyn E. Smith and Brian Michael Stableford

Evelyn E. Smith (25 July 1922 – 4 July 2000)

Smith was a wonderfully amusing, Science Fiction (and ocassionaly fantasy) writer whose stories frequently filled the pages of  Galaxy Science Fiction and Fantastic Universe, during the 1950's and very early 60's.  Several of her works are freely available so give them a try.

• At Quasar Dragon: "Dragon Lady"
"BACK in the Eleventh Century, I was the only daughter of a rich and powerful king in the North, as well as being the most beautiful woman in the known world, though I say it as shouldn't. Naturally a combination of such talents as my looks and my dowry would make princes come from far and near to seek my hand in marriage."

At Project Gutenberg:
Old Time Radio
• At Internet Archive: "Mans Best Friend" (right click to download)
"In the 28th century, a reclusive man is chosen by a central computer to assassinate the Overlord and take his place. All of society is egging him on, including the Overlord himself - but the computer has ulterior motives."

Brian Michael Stableford (born 25 July 1948)
A prolific Science Fiction and Fantasy author, Stableford has more than  seventy novels to his credit, some under the pen name Brian Craig (including five Warhammer novels).  His fiction ranges from lofty Space Opera to gritty, hack and slash fantasy.  Be sure to listen to the StarShipSofa reading below and if you like grab some of his other works.
