Celebrating the Birth . . . Susan Palwick

Susan Palwick (born 7 Sept. 1961)
A World Fantasy Award nominated writer, Palwick's short fiction has appeared in Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine, The Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction, and other prestigious markets and her novels have been well received. She is also an English Professor at the University of Nevada, Reno.  Her web page is here. And fortunately, two of her short stories are freely available.

"'Homecoming,' by Susan Palwick, is a dark fantasy about a young girl on the cusp of womanhood who yearns to leave her village and go to sea with her best friend, a boy about her own age, despite natural and supernatural dangers."

"The man sitting behind the desk wore an expensive suit and a tense expression; next to him, an aide vomited into a bucket. 'Sir,' the aide said, raising his head from the bucket long enough to gasp out a comment. 'Sir, I think this is going to be a public-relations disaster.'"
